Scenic Drives

There are approximately 4 miles of paved roadway and 12 miles of unpaved roadway, including numerous vista points.

Camping
There are various designated campsites throughout the park.  Open camping is also permitted.

Picnic tables are available for use at campsites and scattered throughout the park at turnoffs and trailheads. 

 

 

Hiking
There are three developed trails; the Diane Gabriel Trail, the Cap Rock Nature Trail and the Kinney Coulee Hiking Trail.  Off-trail hiking is permitted throughout the park.  Trail guides can be obtained at the visitor center free of charge.

Disc Golf Course
An 18 basket Disc Golf Course is located approximately one mile into the park between the Group Use Shelter and campgrounds.  The course begins at the Group Use Shelter.  Score sheets are available at the Visitor Center and are also located in a box next to the course.

Special Events
Numerous special events take place at Makoshika throughout the Spring and Summer.  If you would like to see a schedule of 2008 events clink on the words "Special Events" above.
